On Friday 22 March 2019, one of the most important and most talked-about contemporary artists Yayoi Kusama turned 90 years old. Voorlinden is showing some iconic works from our own collection in the garden room, including the reflective Infinity Room to her world-famous dotted Pumpkin and monumental Infinity Nets. This small presentation is supplemented with several loans from private collections and museums.
22 March - 1 September 2019
Kusama knew as a little girl that she wanted to become an artist. The Japanese artist is also called the princess of polka dots. Her paintings, sculptures, installations and performances have one thing in common: dots. Since her youth Kusama has suffered from psychosis. To overcome her fears, she fills her rooms with dots. Throughout her oeuvre she tries to capture something as intangible as boundlessness. You can literally experience the concept of infinity in her work. Welcome to the universe of Yayoi Kusama.
